"Adoptive Land" - 2022
Um visitante perdido, sem terra nem país, chega a uma aldeia perdida nas serras longínquas e escaldantes, e descobre um povo enegrecido, verdadeiro, que apela à alma da terra e à força dos pinheiros e ainda olham para o céu, veneram o sol, descobrem santos e vislumbram milagres.
Descobre um dia que tinha nascido ali e adotou esta aldeia fazendo-a sua, cantando o fragor do rio e das ribeiras, quando ainda em granito puro e de lousas partidas, não havia estradas nem andarilhos sedentos, só pequenos carreiros e erva daninha à beira dos caminhos.
Achou ainda, que tinha ali nascido de direito adquirido, como se tivesse parido naquele destino e que havia de dizer a todos, estas histórias, para que o futuro não as perdesse.
Esta não é uma história fictícia.
A lost visitor, without land or country, arrives at a lost village in the distant and scorching mountains, and discovers a blackened people, truth, which appeals to the soul of the earth and the strength of the pines and still look at the sky, worship the sun, discover saints and glimpse miracles.
He discovers one day that he was born there and adopted this village making it his own, singing the roar of the river and streams, when still on pure granite and broken slates, there were no roads or thirsty wanderers,
just small paths and weeds along the paths.
He still thought he was born there by right, as if he had given birth to in that destination and that he would tell everyone these stories, so that the future don't miss them.
This is not a fictional story.

Um barco numa Ria, uma rapariga num molhe, imóvel como uma estátua, de olhos postos no mar. Leva na mão um balde sem nada.
O que faz ela ali? Que imagens sussurra, de um passado, da história, de uma região magnífica de lendas e de história, de antigo esplendor e património?

O distrito de Aveiro aonde se incluem o concelho de Estarreja e a freguesia de Avanca, é uma das mais importantes bacias leiteiras de Portugal.
Moliço é o nome dado a um conjunto de plantas aquáticas que vivem submersas na Ria de Aveiro e foi, durante séculos, um recurso importante para o ressurgimento da economia agrícola da região, sendo apanhado e utilizado como fertilizante agrícola. A GIRL IN THE PIER
A boat in a Ria, a girl on a jetty, immobile as a statue, with her eyes on the sea. He carries a bucket with nothing in his hand.
What is she doing there? What images do you whisper, of a past, of history, of a magnificent region of legends and history, of ancient splendor and heritage?
Aveiro region, which includes the municipality of Estarreja and the village of Avanca, is one of the most important dairy basins in Portugal.
Moliço is the name given to a group of aquatic plants that live submerged in the Ria de Aveiro and was, for centuries, an important resource for the resurgence of the agricultural economy of the region, being caught and used as agricultural fertilizer.
The typical boats that appear in the film, called "moliceiros", were the boats used for the harvesting of the moliço and are today used, in part, for traditional walks in the beautiful channels of the Ria de Aveiro.

"Lake Children" - 2021
No maior lago interior do mundo, existem centenas de vilas flutuantes. Vivem milhares de crianças em um ciclo interminável de pobreza e miséria, sem educação, sem saúde, desnutrição e sem futuro. Eles são obrigados a exibir sua miséria para despertar o espírito de caridade dos visitantes. Eles são os filhos do Lago Tonlé Sap no Camboja.
Este filme é um relato feito no local, da realidade desesperada e que ainda assim não mostra muito da odisseia e da miséria sem fim, daqueles que foram chamados os mais pobres entre os pobres.

On the largest inland lake in the world, there are hundreds of floating villages. Thousands of children live in an endless cycle of poverty and misery, without education, without health, malnutrition and without a future. They are forced to display their misery to awaken the charitable spirit of the visitors. They are the children of Lake Tonlé Sap in Cambodia.
This film is an account made on the spot, of the desperate reality and yet it does not show much of the endless odyssey and misery of those who were called the poorest of the poor.

Este filme retrata as vivências de uma vila e de uma aldeia, numa região do nordeste de Portugal, no ambiente geral da desertificação acelerada do interior e das aldeias, no tempo presente.
No interior do País, há muito que o tempo passou e todos se esqueceram dos que ousaram ficar pelo interior rural. E o êxodo não é só humano. Escolas, farmácias, serviços de correio, centros de saúde, transportadoras, postos da GNR e tribunais, foram desaparecendo do Interior.
Só restam as aldeias solitárias, abandonadas e as recordações da casa da floresta, das desgraças e das tristezas, do medo e das partidas, das cantigas e das danças, da esperança e do sol que continua a morrer, atrás do Gião, uns dias a seguir aos outros e as noites e semanas, umas depois das outras.
This film portrays the way of life of a town and a village, in a region of northeastern Portugal, in the general environment of accelerated desertification of the countryside and villages in the present time.
In the interior of the country, time has long passed and all have forgotten those who dared to stay in the countryside. And the exodus is not only human. Schools, pharmacies, courier services, health centers, carriers, police and courts, were disappearing from the Interior.
There are only the lonely villages, abandoned villages and the memories of the forest house, the misfortunes and sorrows, the fear and the games, the songs and dances, the hope and the sun that continues to die behind the Gião, a few days follow the others and the nights and weeks, one after the other.

"O maravilhoso reino da terra" é um filme de ficção sobre as terras do norte de Portugal, que não têm fronteiras geográficas seguras. Estendem-se para lá dos tempos, para lá do imaginário. Uma boa parte da autenticidade vive lá, em cada casa percorrida, nos caminhos percorridos da solidão e isolamento. É também um mundo a terminar.
O título é uma adaptação da expressão "um reino maravilhoso" de Miguel Torga, um dos mais influentes poetas e escritores portugueses do século XX, que procurou a identidade e as raízes, na aliança do homem com a terra.
"The wonderful kingdom on earth" is a fictional film about the lands of northern Portugal, which have no secure geographical borders. They extend beyond time, beyond imaginary. A good part of the authenticity lives there, in each house traveled, in the paths covered by solitude and isolation. It is also a world to end.
The title is an adaptation of the expression "a wonderful kingdom" by Miguel Torga, one of the most influential Portuguese poets and writers of the twentieth century, who sought identity and roots in man's alliance with the earth.
